Innovative Step Towards Digital Transformation
The vibrant city of Marrakech has recently witnessed the launch of an integrated initiative aimed at digitizing the traditional crafts sector, alongside a structured training and support program tailored for artisans. This significant event took place during the fourth edition of the "GITEX Africa Morocco" exhibition, which ran from April 7th to 9th. The initiative aligns with the roadmap set forth by the State Secretariat responsible for traditional industries and the social and solidarity economy, in collaboration with the "Dar Sanaa" Foundation, with the primary goal of enhancing the competitiveness of the sector and improving its overall performance.
Harnessing Technology to Empower Artisans
This initiative is the result of a memorandum of understanding signed in May 2025 with partners including "Mastercard," the Central Popular Bank Group, and "M2T." It incorporates comprehensive digital solutions designed to facilitate electronic transactions, featuring technologies such as App to App and SoftPOS, which enable payment acceptance via smartphones. Furthermore, the program encompasses services for installation and maintenance, as well as remote payment capabilities, including online transactions. This approach aims to accelerate the integration of artisans into the digital economy.
The training and support program is specifically designed to enhance the digital competencies of traditional artisans and improve their visibility across digital platforms. It equips them with modern tools that include artificial intelligence and e-commerce techniques. Participants at the launch emphasized that digitizing the sector has transitioned from being a secondary option to a pivotal driver for financial inclusion and market expansion, particularly in light of the rapid digital transformations occurring globally. The "GITEX Africa Morocco" event is anticipated to attract around 50,000 participants and 1,450 exhibitors from 130 countries, further underscoring the significance of this digital evolution.
