Marrakech witnessed the launch of an integrated initiative aimed at digitizing the traditional craft sector on Tuesday, coinciding with the fourth edition of the "GITEX Africa Morocco" exhibition, which runs from April 7 to 9. This initiative is part of a strategic roadmap developed by the State Secretariat responsible for traditional industry, social, and solidarity economy, in collaboration with the "Dar Al-San'a" Foundation. Its primary objective is to enhance the competitiveness of the sector and improve its overall performance.
This initiative, which is based on the implementation of a memorandum of understanding signed in May 2025 with "Mastercard", the Central Popular Bank Group, and "M2T", relies on comprehensive digital solutions designed to facilitate electronic operations. Among these solutions are the App to App and SoftPOS technologies, which enable payment acceptance through smartphones. The system also includes services for installation and maintenance, as well as remote payment capabilities, including online transactions, in a bid to accelerate the integration of traditional artisans into the digital economy.
Furthermore, the training and support program aims to enhance the digital skills of traditional artisans and improve their presence on digital platforms. It equips them with modern tools that include artificial intelligence technologies and e-commerce strategies. Participants during this event emphasized that the digitization of the sector is no longer a secondary option but has become a crucial lever for financial integration and market expansion, especially in light of the rapid digital transformations occurring globally. This year's "GITEX Africa Morocco" is expected to attract around 50,000 participants and 1,450 exhibitors from 130 countries.
