Marrakech-Menara Airport Set for Major Upgrades by 2026

Marrakech-Menara Airport is poised for significant renovations as part of the 2026 program initiated by the National Airports Office (ONDA). This initiative encompasses a variety of projects aimed at modernizing the airport's facilities, including enhancements to the esplanade, outdoor lighting, building structures, and aeronautical infrastructure. These upgrades are crucial for accommodating the growing activity at one of Morocco's busiest airports.

As indicated in ONDA's projected market program for 2026, the renovations will not only focus on visible areas frequented by travelers but will also address vital technical infrastructures. A particularly noticeable aspect of these improvements will be the redesign and refurbishment of the terminal esplanade. The program outlines the addition of benches, a designated smoking area, and waste disposal bins. While these may seem like minor details, they significantly enhance travelers' comfort, especially during peak travel periods.

Moreover, the outdoor lighting is also set for an upgrade. ONDA plans to enhance the lighting in various parking areas, including the freight aircraft parking, the official building parking lot, and the general car park. Additionally, solar-powered floodlights will be installed to illuminate the perimeter road, with this work scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of the year.

Comprehensive Upgrades Beyond the Terminal

However, the modernization efforts are not limited to the terminal's exterior. The program also includes extensive maintenance of the airport's buildings, addressing issues such as glazing, carpentry, wall coverings, waterproofing, plastering, sanitation, hardware, and painting. Regular cleaning and specialized cleaning services are also part of the outlined improvements.

Several projects will focus on upgrading essential networks and infrastructure. ONDA plans to enhance the sewage network for connection to the Marrakech-Safi liquid sanitation network and to improve plumbing systems, water networks, and hydraulic technical premises. Additionally, a new hydraulic technical room is to be constructed near the Fixed Base Operator (FBO) area.

Furthermore, the airport is involved in broader operations aimed at increasing its overall capacity. The program highlights the development of aeronautical and roadway infrastructures, as well as various networks at Marrakech-Menara, including the expansion of its movement area. While these projects may not be immediately visible to travelers, they are vital for supporting aviation activities and improving the airport's overall functionality.

Finally, ONDA is set to establish two waste disposal sites, one on the airside and another on the landside, in line with environmental standards. Although these projects might not attract attention, they are essential for ensuring the airport meets modern operational and management requirements.

Collectively, these initiatives represent a gradual transformation for Marrakech-Menara Airport. The objective is not merely to enhance the airport's façade but also to strengthen its networks, improve access, bolster facilities, and create a better environment for both passengers and the teams working at the airport.
