The Marrakech police department swiftly responded to a viral video circulated on social media on Sunday, which captured an incident involving a restaurant owner attempting to remove a foreign tourist from in front of his establishment. The video was accompanied by claims that the tourist had been scammed after being asked to pay an exorbitant amount for a pizza meal.
Initial findings from the investigation indicated that the National Security services in Marrakech had not received any complaints or notifications regarding the events depicted in the video. Following this, they launched an inquiry that led to the identification of the restaurant owner, who was subsequently interviewed regarding the incident.
According to the investigation's results, the incident occurred more than a week prior to the Eid al-Adha holiday. The restaurant owner stated that he was compelled to prevent the foreign tourist from entering his restaurant due to her apparent intoxication and erratic behavior. He categorically denied the allegations related to overcharging her for a meal.
Additionally, on-site investigations revealed that the restaurant in question does not even serve pizza, contradicting the narrative that had been widely circulated alongside the video. This inquiry is part of ongoing efforts to verify the accuracy of content shared in the digital space, especially information that may contain inaccuracies that could harm individuals' reputations or present events inaccurately.
