Marrakech Police Investigate Officer for Alleged Sexual Assault

On the evening of Monday, September 28, the judicial police of Marrakech initiated an investigation, under the supervision of the relevant public prosecutor's office, aimed at uncovering all criminal activities attributed to a brigadier suspected of involvement in a serious sexual assault case. This decisive action comes in response to a complaint lodged by a woman who reported that she had been sexually assaulted by an individual who claimed to be a police officer. The incident allegedly occurred after she discovered him in the company of another person.

Suspension and Legal Proceedings

The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) has successfully identified and apprehended the officer in question following extensive inquiries triggered by the victim's complaint. Currently, the brigadier is being held in custody, which allows investigators to delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding the incident and the officer's previous conduct. This detention is set for an initial period of 48 hours, with the possibility of a 24-hour extension granted by the prosecutor's written consent.

In a proactive measure, the director general of national security and territorial surveillance has temporarily suspended the brigadier from his duties in accordance with the specific regulations governing national security personnel. This suspension will remain in effect until the conclusion of the investigation, and it serves as a precautionary measure that removes the officer's responsibilities without prejudging his criminal liability or constituting a disciplinary sanction.

Under the penal code, the crime of rape is punishable by a prison term ranging from five to ten years. This penalty can be increased to between ten and twenty years if the victim is a minor or if the perpetrator is a public official or someone in a position of authority over the victim. Furthermore, impersonating a public official is a distinct offense that the ongoing investigation will clarify.
