Marrakech-Safi Kicks Off the 2026-2027 Hunting Season

The 2026-2027 hunting season has officially commenced in the Marrakech-Safi region, marking an important event for both local enthusiasts and tourists. The launch event was organized by the National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF) along with the Moroccan Royal Hunting Federation (FRMC). This significant gathering took place on Friday at the Palais des Congrès in Marrakech, and it focused on the sustainable management of hunting resources and the promotion of hunting tourism.

Among the notable attendees were Abderrahim Houmy, the General Director of ANEF, and Ahmed Moussaoui, the President of FRMC, along with various hunters, professionals, and representatives from partner authorities and institutions. The previous hunting season saw a remarkable turnout, attracting over 65,000 Moroccan hunters and nearly 5,000 tourists. The number of hunting lots leased has increased from 1,278 in the 2020-2021 season to 1,737 in 2025-2026, with the total area covered expanding to approximately 4.39 million hectares compared to 3.35 million hectares previously.

Focus on Sustainable and Tourist Hunting

Discussions during the event highlighted the future prospects of hunting tourism, which now boasts 146 specialized companies. Enhancing the diversity of offerings, particularly through archery hunting, was emphasized as a strategy to increase Morocco's appeal in this sector. The event also featured the presentation of a book titled "Iconic Game Species of Morocco" and recognized several experienced hunters from the region. Practical workshops were conducted on topics such as hunting tourism and archery hunting.

The day concluded with a visit to one of the leased hunting lots, where a simulated release of partridges was performed without firearms. Both ANEF and FRMC reaffirmed their commitment to promoting responsible, ethical, and safe hunting practices, aligning with the "Forests of Morocco 2020-2030" strategy.
