Marrakech Scandal: A Love Story Leads to Dean's Dismissal

Marrakech University Dean Dismissed Amid Scandal

The recent dismissal of the dean of the Faculty of Languages at Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakech has captured significant media attention, following the leak of an audio recording that contains intimate conversations between the dean and a student. This scandal has prompted swift action from the Ministry of Higher Education, which issued a decree for the immediate removal of the accused dean, as reported by the newspaper Assabah.

In the wake of the controversy, one of the dean's deputies has been appointed to take over the interim responsibilities at the faculty. The dean himself has since come forward to provide his perspective on the matter, claiming that the incriminating conversation dates back to 2008, when the student had left the university due to mental health issues stemming from her affection for him.

The dean argues that he had encouraged the student to resume her studies during their conversations. To motivate her, he allegedly feigned mutual feelings in the presence of his wife, who had answered the initial phone call. He further disclosed that in 2012, a student had informed him that the woman behind the controversial recording was not genuinely a student, but rather someone who has manipulated situations to blackmail faculty members. According to the dean, with the assistance of the aware student, the original recording was destroyed, yet, unbeknownst to him, a copy remained with a colleague who had promised to delete it.

As the situation unfolds, the former dean suggests that the audio recording has been taken out of context and weaponized by a rival in an attempt to sabotage his candidacy for the dean position. An investigation is set to be launched to clarify the details surrounding this incident, raising questions about how a university official could engage so personally with an anonymous individual and share such tender exchanges.
