Marrakech's Unrivaled Tourism Growth
Marrakech, often referred to as the Red City, continues to assert its dominance in the national tourism landscape, showcasing its exceptional appeal as a primary destination for both domestic and international visitors. As per the latest data released by the Tourism Observatory, registered accommodation establishments in the city recorded approximately 4.7 million overnight stays by the end of April 2026, marking a significant growth of 10% compared to the same period last year. This robust dynamic highlights the strategic importance of Marrakech within Morocco's tourism framework, capturing an impressive 34% of the total overnight stays recorded nationwide during the first four months of the current year.
In parallel with this substantial influx of tourists, the occupancy rate in the classified accommodation establishments in the city remained stable at around 70% until the end of April, sustaining its overall balance compared to the same period in 2025. Notably, April was not an exception to this upward trend; rather, it emerged as a standout month, during which hotels and accommodation facilities in the city registered over 1.3 million overnight stays, achieving a 10% increase from April of the previous year. Furthermore, the occupancy rate saw a remarkable surge, reaching 79%, reflecting intense demand and vigorous tourism activity throughout the month.
This local recovery aligns seamlessly with the overall positive performance observed across the kingdom, as various classified accommodation establishments nationwide recorded nearly 14 million overnight stays from January to April 2026, reflecting a 9% rise compared to the same timeframe last year. It is noteworthy that this growth is accompanied by an improvement in the national occupancy rate, which stabilized at around 55%, registering a slight increase of one percentage point compared to the prior year. Thus, Marrakech remains the vital engine and beating heart of Moroccan tourism.
