Marrakech to Host the National Festival of Creative Writing in May 2026

Marrakech Set to Celebrate Creative Writing

The vibrant city of Marrakech is set to host the National Festival of Creative Writing from May 5 to May 8, 2026. This exciting event is part of the national program "Preparations for Leadership," which is supported by various regional academies of education and training. The Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports has launched a special project dedicated to extracurricular activities encompassing various forms of arts such as theater, cinema, improvisation, and entrepreneurial culture. The task of implementing the creative writing component has been entrusted to the Aisil Association for Theater and Cultural Animation.

Since the beginning of the 2025-2026 academic year, training sessions for educators have been organized alongside the preparation of various pedagogical materials and tools. Professional writers from the association have accompanied the creative processes in nearly 300 educational institutions across the country, resulting in a dynamic output of diverse creative works including literary texts, editorial pieces, artistic creations, and various forms of journalistic expression.

Following this creative momentum, regional and provincial eliminations have provided students with spaces to exchange ideas and showcase their talents, selecting one institution from each region to represent them at the National Festival in Marrakech. Participating students will present a multitude of creative works across various fields, including poetry, short stories, theatrical scripts, screenplays, comics, school magazines, podcasts, and journalistic articles.

The judging panel for this esteemed event will be chaired by the esteemed writer and screenwriter Bousrahan Al-Zaitouni, alongside a distinguished group of prominent figures in the writing community. Notable members include Asmae Lakmani, the Regional Director of Culture in Marrakech, playwright and filmmaker Mohammed Boubou, Safaa Zakkani, founder of the Meknes Television Drama Festival, and Hassan Hemouch, a writer and director.
