Robust Security Measures in Marrakech's Gueliz Area
On the night of Saturday, May 2nd, the First Security Area of Marrakech launched a series of extensive security operations across various neighborhoods in the Gueliz district. These efforts were aimed at combating disturbances to public order and purging public spaces of illegal practices. The operations were spearheaded by the Urban Brigade, under the direct supervision of the area chief, as part of a broader security plan designed to enhance citizens' sense of safety while tightening the grip on crime in its many forms.
The extensive campaign resulted in the apprehension of numerous individuals caught in the act of committing offenses punishable by law. The outcomes of these operations included the arrest of 25 individuals for public intoxication, 10 for inciting corruption, and 8 for issues related to the possession and consumption of narcotics. Moreover, significant efforts were directed towards combating exploitation in begging, with 20 cases identified involving individuals soliciting alms alongside minors, which places them under both legal and social scrutiny.
In accordance with procedural measures, all detainees were transported to the premises of Police Station 22 for further investigation and processing, ensuring they were subject to the applicable legal proceedings. These intensive operations reflect the strategic approach of the security services in the red city to enforce the rule of law and ensure the safety of both citizens and visitors, particularly in areas known for vibrant nightlife.
