Player Ratings and Performance Overview
Yassine Bounou (7): Throughout the majority of the match, the Moroccan goalkeeper was not heavily tested; however, he maintained a vigilant presence despite the lapses in the defensive line. His interventions were clean, and he exuded calmness when called upon, delivering a solid performance overall as the captain of the Atlas Lions. Unfortunately, he was powerless to prevent Mali's equalizer, which was a perfectly placed shot into the top corner.
Ali Maamar (6): Active on the right flank, he demonstrated a commendable work ethic, frequently pushing forward to support the attacking phases. His movements injected dynamism into the right side but also left gaps behind him that Mali sought to exploit during transitions.
Issa Diop (6): Generally untroubled when directly challenged, the Ipswich Town central defender had a rather understated performance. He was rarely caught out individually but faced a more challenging second half as the Moroccan defense came under increased pressure after the break.
Nayef Aguerd (5): His performance was far from reassuring. Despite some clean passes, the Olympique de Marseille central defender lacked composure and failed to provide the expected solidity at the back. He struggled when the Malian attack found its pace, failing to assert the authority his status should command within the defense.
Anas Salah-Eddine (5): Available on the left flank, he regularly supported Moroccan offensives and aimed to provide an additional solution. Although comfortable in advancing, he lacked precision in the final meters, which hindered his ability to make a significant impact on the game.
Neil El Aynaoui (6): The RB Leipzig defensive midfielder did not exert his usual influence in the midfield. His choices were often too neutral, resulting in a failure to break lines or inject rhythm into the Atlas Lions' play. While he avoided any major mistakes, his overall impact was minimal.
Ayyoub Bouaddi (7): Comfortable in the midfield, he brought fluidity and verticality to the national team's gameplay. Some minor errors did not overshadow the impression left by the young Manchester City talent, who was one of the most active Moroccan players of the evening.
Azzedine Ounahi (5): Positioned between the lines, he attempted to add movement to the Moroccan play and create space with his technical skills. However, he often overcomplicated certain sequences, risking the pace of the game or losing possession. In trying to do too much, Ounahi sometimes ended up doing less.
Bilal El Khannouss (5): He was very involved in every phase of play, consistently dropping back to touch the ball and looking to participate in the build-up. However, in the areas where his creativity was needed, the Stuttgart offensive midfielder lacked both innovation and accuracy to effectively destabilize the Malian block. His activity was commendable, yet he failed to create significant differences in the final third.
Abdessamad Ezzalzouli (5): Scoring from a penalty after winning the foul himself, he once again showcased his ability to provoke opponents with the ball at his feet. While Abde has the potential to make a difference with every touch, he was not sufficiently impactful in the final third. His intentions were dangerous, but the execution fell short.
Ismael Saibari (4): More proactive than in the previous match against Lesotho, he attempted to drive forward and engage with the opposing area. However, the Bayern Munich offensive midfielder once again struggled with his ball control, failing to deliver the anticipated impact in the attacking dynamics. His international break has clearly not been beneficial.
Brahim Diaz (4.5): Brought on to inject creativity and solutions into the Moroccan attack, he failed to alter the match's dynamics. Diaz attempted to create opportunities with the ball but did not manage to pose a genuine threat. His introduction added no tangible value.
Soufiane Rahimi (4.5): His introduction came into a Moroccan attack that was already lacking solutions. Rahimi struggled to connect with his teammates and find spaces to impose his style of play.
Zakaria El Ouahdi, Gessime Yassine, and Tawfik Bentayeb: Coming on in the closing minutes of the match, they did not have enough time or momentum to significantly influence the game and thus could not be rated.
Mohamed Ouahbi (4): The offensive animation was almost nonexistent, and no solutions were found to break through the Malian block. His team lacked movement, rhythm, and, most importantly, ideas, with his substitutions failing to change the match's complexion. The introduction of Tawfik Bentayeb in the 90th minute epitomizes a puzzling management decision; with almost no time left, the striker had no chance to make an impact. The most concerning aspect remains the déjà-vu feeling, ten months after the previous Morocco-Mali encounter during the AFCON 2025. Same opponent, similar scenario, and still too few solutions to destabilize them.
