Mattias Ekström Shines in Moroccan Rally
In an exhilarating turn of events at the Moroccan Rally, Mattias Ekström, driving for Ford, clinched victory in the fourth stage, outpacing competitors Henk Lategan (Toyota) and Mitch Guthrie (Ford) on Friday. This stage proved significant as Seth Quintero, also from Toyota, surged to the top of the overall standings, while renowned driver Sébastien Loeb faced mechanical issues once again, impacting his performance.
The Moroccan Rally has become a platform for redemption for many drivers. After experiencing mechanical troubles in the previous stage, Ekström made a remarkable comeback, showcasing his prowess behind the wheel of his Ford Raptor. He maintained a formidable pace that only Lategan could closely follow, finishing just 35 seconds behind him. The gaps between the leading drivers were notable, with Mitch Guthrie trailing by 2 minutes and 42 seconds, followed by Lucas Moraes (Dacia) and Nasser al-Attiyah (Dacia), who were both over three minutes behind.
Seth Quintero Takes the Lead
Seth Quintero, although finishing sixth in this stage, strategically capitalized on his consistency throughout the rally, allowing him to take the lead in the overall standings with a 2-minute and 45-second advantage over Lategan and a 5-minute and 9-second cushion over Nani Roma (Ford), who overtook Carlos Sainz (Ford) from the previous day. This advantageous position sets Quintero up for a potentially high-scoring Saturday, which could see him rise to the top of the World Championship rankings. If he secures his standing, it would mean surpassing Sébastien Loeb, who has not had the smoothest of rallies this time around.
