In a recent ruling by the Court of First Instance in Marrakech, a local media outlet and its publishing director were found not guilty of the charges brought against them. This legal case arose from a complaint filed by a local official who believed he was personally affected by an article previously published by the media outlet.
The complainant accused the media organization and its director of committing offenses including defamation, slander, and invasion of privacy, demanding a civil compensation of no less than 200,000 dirhams. He argued that the content of the article had caused him direct harm and damage to his reputation.
After thoroughly examining the case and considering all relevant information, the court accepted the complaint in form but ruled in favor of the defendants on the substantive issues, ultimately declaring them innocent of all charges. Furthermore, the court ordered the complainant to bear the legal costs associated with the case.
In addition, the court declared it lacked jurisdiction to adjudicate the civil claims, leaving those matters to the appropriate authorities. This initial ruling effectively concludes a phase of judicial proceedings that had been ongoing against the media outlet and its director, as the court determined that the facts presented did not warrant a conviction.
