Mediator Office Seeks Intervention from Sefrou Officials to Address Local Concerns

Mediator Office Appeals for Sefrou Official Intervention

The regional office of the Mediator Institution in Fez-Meknes has recently reached out to Ibrahim Abou Zeid, the prefect of Sefrou, regarding the lack of response from the head of the Al-Dar Al-Hamra municipality to two petitions presented by a local association. These petitions were aimed at addressing pressing issues within the community, and their omission from the recent monthly session in May has sparked significant debate among local social media activists.

The petitions encapsulate vital demands from the local populace, emphasizing the urgent need for infrastructure improvements, such as road repairs and alleviating isolation in rural areas. The first petition, submitted to the municipal head in March, specifically requests enhancements to the roads and pathways to improve living conditions for residents.

Furthermore, the Association for Solidarity and Development, in its petition, has highlighted the critical need to secure educational institutions to reduce traffic accidents. This call to action stems from the concerning disregard some drivers show towards traffic laws. The association insists on the importance of installing road signage and implementing safety measures to guarantee the well-being of students crossing streets.

In light of these issues, the association has condemned the municipal council's disregard for the petitions, which they argue contradicts the constitutional rights that allow citizens and associations to present proposals and participate in local development discussions. The Mediator Institution's involvement underscores the necessity of addressing these local grievances, urging for a more responsive governance structure that prioritizes community engagement and infrastructure development.
