Food Industries at the Heart of Economic Transformation in the Fes-Meknes Region
Meknes will host the inaugural "Meknes Agricultural Business Day" on April 24, 2026. This strategic conference is organized by the Fes-Meknes Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Services in collaboration with the Regional Economic Forum. The event aims to engage in a strategic discussion on the future of the food industries sector and its developmental prospects, coinciding with the International Agricultural Show in Morocco (SIAM 2026).
This event is part of a rapidly evolving dynamic surrounding the International Agricultural Show, which serves as a premier continental platform attracting over 1,500 exhibitors and 70 foreign delegations. More than 1.1 million visitors are expected, reflecting Morocco's prominent position as a pivotal player in the agricultural sector and its associated industries.
Today, the food industries sector stands as one of the main drivers of the national economy, especially given the profound transformations happening in the realm of production and commercial exchange. In an increasingly interconnected global economy, likened to a "small village," competition accelerates, and market rules shift continuously. In this context, enhancing the competitiveness of this sector is crucial and can be achieved through three key strategies: improving the quality of offerings, diversifying domestic markets to boost national consumption, and strengthening integration into global value chains to elevate export levels and expand the presence of Moroccan products in international markets.
Strategies for Strengthening Export Potential
During the conference, there will be a strong emphasis on the need to boost exports through the adoption of modern technologies in production and marketing, alongside the development of innovative support mechanisms. This includes aiding small and medium-sized enterprises and cooperatives, which are considered fundamental pillars of the agricultural economic fabric.
Discussions will also explore the potential establishment of a consolidation mechanism aimed at unifying agricultural and industrial offerings by purchasing products from small enterprises, while providing support in quality, marketing, and export processes. This initiative is designed to enhance their ability to penetrate international markets, particularly in Africa.
Morocco possesses significant export potential estimated at around 120 billion dirhams. However, enhancing this performance is contingent upon strengthening the export insurance system, improving logistics infrastructure, and adopting a regional approach to exporting that empowers regions, especially Fes-Meknes, as active centers in export and distribution operations.
This dynamic aligns with strategic orientations aimed at supporting productive economies, enhancing food sovereignty, and increasing the added value of local products, while emphasizing the integration of cooperative economies within production and marketing chains.
Through this initiative, the Fes-Meknes Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Services seeks to solidify Meknes's status as a regional and national platform for agricultural business by fostering extensive discussions among economic actors, decision-makers, investors, and experts regarding challenges related to innovation, financing, marketing, and internationalization.
Thus, the "Meknes Agricultural Business Day" represents a new milestone in establishing the Fes-Meknes region as a promising economic hub in the food industries, while redefining the contours of the production and marketing model.
