The recent Menorca Horse Week has significantly elevated the profile of the purebred Menorcan horse, marking a notable milestone in its journey towards international recognition. This pioneering event, hosted in Es Mercadal, not only celebrated the local equine culture but also leveraged the power of the internet to amplify its outreach. Organized by Livestock Genetics from Spain (LGFS), this event transformed Menorca into a vibrant hub for equestrian tourism, cultural appreciation, and high-level livestock promotion.
A key aspect of the event was the invitation of three influential figures from the equine world, whose digital content has been instrumental in showcasing the Menorcan horse on various social media platforms. This initiative was made possible through a collaboration between the Real Federación Española de Asociaciones de Ganado Selecto (Rfeagas) and the Institute of Foreign Trade (ICEX), bringing together renowned international content creators and equestrian advocates to highlight the genetic, cultural, and touristic value of the Menorcan horse, as well as its deep-rooted connection to the island's identity.
Among the distinguished guests was Tao Aima, a Chinese influencer with over 2.9 million Instagram followers, recognized as one of Asia's leading equestrian content creators. Her success stems from captivating videos that feature horseback riding in stunning natural landscapes, often characterized by their cinematic quality and frequent virality. Additionally, she boasts a substantial YouTube following with 600,000 subscribers, further amplifying her reach.
Another prominent participant was Yassine_Cavalier, a Moroccan content creator who has garnered a following of more than half a million on social media. His profile, which focuses on equestrian spectacles, tourism, and the promotion of the equine industry, has notably gained popularity due to his engaging content and breathtaking imagery of gallops along the beach.
The Menorca Horse Week also saw the involvement of Marta González, a renowned journalist and ambassador for this inaugural edition of the event. With extensive experience in equestrian communication and tourism, González has played a pivotal role in promoting Menorca as a premier equestrian destination, showcasing both the island's cultural heritage and the uniqueness of the purebred Menorcan horse.
During their visit, the influencers were immersed in the vibrant equestrian culture of Menorca, witnessing firsthand the integral role that the local horse plays in the island's traditions. The agenda included attending an equestrian show organized by the Association of Breeders and Owners of Menorcan Horses, in collaboration with various equestrian schools on the island, as well as participating in a morphological competition for the breed.
Moreover, the itinerary featured visits to notable breeding farms, such as Son Saura in Es Migjorn Gran, home to this year's Champion of the Breed, and Ses Arenes de Dalt in Ciutadella, recognized as both the Champion Breeder and Best Breeder. The participants also took part in a roundtable discussion titled "Forum: Tourism, Menorca, and Horses," further emphasizing the event's commitment to fostering dialogue around equestrian tourism.
