Messe Düsseldorf Expands into North African Food Industry

Messe Düsseldorf is set to enhance its presence in the MENA region by organizing a new specialized trade fair, Morocco Food World, focused on the food and packaging industries. Scheduled for the autumn of 2027, this event will be held in collaboration with the Fédération Nationale de l’Agroalimentaire (Fenagri), the national association representing Morocco's food industry. The new fair aims to strengthen the foothold of the interpack alliance in North Africa, catering to the increasing demand for modern food processing technologies, efficient production systems, and advanced packaging solutions in the Moroccan market.

The initiative marks a significant step in Messe Düsseldorf's strategy to expand within the region, particularly since the company has been active in Egypt since 2019 with dedicated fairs for processing and packaging. Events such as Food Africa and interpack Middle East Africa, held in Cairo, already serve as platforms connecting food production with processing technologies and packaging solutions. With Morocco’s geographical proximity to Europe and its access to West African markets, the new fair is poised to position the country as a critical link between the two continents.

Technological Demand Driven by Food Industry Growth

Morocco has emerged as a major economic and industrial hub in North Africa, with economic growth projected at approximately 4-4.5% for both 2026 and 2027, according to forecasts from Messe Düsseldorf. Investments in infrastructure and industry, along with strong economic ties to Europe, enhance the country's appeal as a marketplace. The evolution of the food industry has particularly impacted the processing and packaging sectors, with Morocco exporting a variety of products, including fruits, vegetables, seafood, and processed foods, alongside a burgeoning internal market.

As consumer demands for quality, safety, and international marketing increase, the modernization of production facilities is essential. This trend is leading to a heightened demand for processing technologies, automation, quality control solutions, as well as packaging materials and supplies. Morocco Food World will bring together food manufacturers, distributors, and international buyers with suppliers of technology and services. The partnership with Fenagri will help facilitate connections with industry associations and businesses across Morocco, leveraging the expertise of a network that includes 15 sector associations and over 2,600 companies, representing a substantial portion of the Moroccan market.
