The Michelin Guide has significantly expanded its hotel selection in Morocco, which now features a total of 84 establishments. This latest update highlights new additions in prominent cities such as Marrakech, Casablanca, and Salé, with 31 Moroccan hotels being awarded one or more Michelin Keys. It's important to note that the Michelin Guide's selection goes beyond just those hotels that have received keys; it also includes a variety of recommended hotels, riads, and guesthouses that have been thoroughly inspected by Michelin's team. The comprehensive collection now showcases an impressive 84 addresses across the country, as detailed in the official Michelin Guide.

Among the new entries, Marrakech welcomes the Riad Laz Mouassine & Wellness, located in the charming Mouassine neighborhood. Additionally, the Stellar Desert Camp has been recognized for its unique setting within the desert landscape of the region. Casablanca also adds to its growing reputation with the inclusion of Villa Sahrai, further establishing the economic capital's presence within a selection that has previously been dominated by the luxury hotels and riads of Marrakech.

In Salé, the Waldorf Astoria Rabat Salé marks its entrance into the Moroccan market, situated within the iconic Mohammed VI Tower. This establishment represents the first foray of the luxury Hilton brand into Morocco, further diversifying the offerings available within the country.

Distinctions and Rankings in the Michelin Selection

The Michelin selection encompasses a wide array of destinations across Morocco, including not only Marrakech, Casablanca, and the Rabat-Salé metropolitan area but also Fès, Tangier, Essaouira, Oualidia, Larache, El Jadida, Taghazout, and Ifrane. However, being part of the general selection does not automatically guarantee a Michelin Key. This prestigious award, akin to the stars given to restaurants, identifies hotels that provide exceptional experiences. In the latest global ranking released on September 18, the Michelin Guide lists 31 hotels with Keys in Morocco, placing the kingdom second in Africa, just behind South Africa, which boasts 32.

Notable establishments such as La Mamounia in Marrakech and Kasbah Tamadot in Asni have retained the maximum distinction of three Keys. Furthermore, a new Moroccan entry, the Riad Mayfez Suites & Spa in Fès, has earned its first Key, recognized as one of the standout new additions in the 2026 African selection by Michelin.

The criteria for these distinctions include an evaluation of the architecture and design, service quality, the establishment's unique character, value for money, and the ability to provide an experience that is reflective of its surroundings. Globally, the Michelin selection comprises over 9,000 hotels, with 2,832 of them holding at least one Key, including 2,020 that have received one Key, 657 that boast two, and 155 that have achieved the top accolade of three Keys.
