Military Aircraft Crash Near Marrakech: Pilot Survives as Investigations Begin

A military training aircraft tragically crashed on Tuesday, July 14, in the village of Taqoura, located in the Aghouatim commune within the Al Haouz province, close to Marrakech. Fortunately, the pilot, who was the sole occupant of the aircraft, survived the incident and received medical attention. However, the precise circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be determined.

The accident took place on Tuesday morning in Al Haouz province. According to the Moroccan media outlet Kech24, the aircraft, identified as a military training plane, went down near Taqoura, prompting immediate response from emergency and security services.

The pilot sustained injuries and was subsequently transported to a hospital for treatment, with no additional casualties reported as a result of the crash, as per Kech24. The area around the crash site was quickly secured by units from the Royal Gendarmerie, Civil Protection teams, and local authorities to facilitate operations at the scene and to conduct initial assessments.

Investigation Underway to Determine Crash Circumstances

Technical and judicial investigations have been initiated to thoroughly understand the factors leading to this unfortunate incident, as reported by Kech24. As of now, no official conclusions regarding the cause of the crash have been released. Various sources in the Moroccan press are attempting to identify the aircraft accurately. Le Desk has classified it as a Mudry CAP 232, an aerobatic plane affiliated with the Marche Verte aerobatic patrol of the Royal Air Forces, based on visible registration numbers from images of the wreckage.

Some Moroccan media outlets have suggested that a potential engine failure occurred, which led to an emergency landing attempt. However, this version remains unconfirmed pending results from an official investigation, leaving the exact cause of the crash still to be determined.

Reflection on Past Tragedies in Aviation

This incident closely follows another tragic aviation event that occurred nearly a year prior, involving a training aircraft from the Royal Air Forces. On July 28, 2025, an Alpha Jet crashed at Fès-Saïss airport while conducting a training mission, resulting in the loss of two officers: a commander and a captain. An investigation was launched to ascertain the causes behind that crash as well.

As investigations continue into the recent crash near Marrakech, authorities are focused on determining the circumstances and causes surrounding this latest accident, hoping to gather insights that could prevent future occurrences.
