Mobile Phone of a Student Unveils Exploitation of Minors in Bamhamid Village

Uncovering a Disturbing Case of Minor Exploitation

In a shocking turn of events in Bamhamid village, located in the Taounate region, a mobile phone belonging to a female student has brought to light a disturbing case of the exploitation and trafficking of minors. The situation escalated quickly, prompting investigations led by the Moroccan Association for Human Rights, which uncovered an organized network suspected of involvement in abduction and sexual assault, resulting in numerous victims and even cases of pregnancy among minors. Multiple arrests have been made, including individuals of influence.

Details of the Investigation and Arrests

Approximately twenty days ago, the issue surfaced inadvertently when one of the victims used her phone during class, leading the teacher to hand the device over to the school administration to check for inappropriate images taken during class time. Upon inspection, the phone contained explicit content, raising suspicions and prompting the administration to question the student involved. Abd al-Rahim al-Murabit, a member of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights from the Fez branch, indicated that following this inquiry, the student admitted to the presence of other girls gathering at a specific house, which led the school to alert law enforcement, who promptly initiated an investigation. The first victim disclosed the names of other minors, all of whom were subsequently interviewed in the course of the investigation.

Initial findings revealed that at least ten other minors were potentially involved in cases of exploitation and sexual abduction, with two of them reportedly pregnant. This alarming revelation has sparked outrage and concern within the community regarding the safety of young girls.

As a result of these investigations, six adults were arrested, including a woman alleged to have acted as a facilitator in coordinating these illicit meetings. They have been referred to the investigating judge at the Court of Appeal in Fez, where they are being held in custody, with some being individuals of significant influence. The police continue their investigations to identify any additional suspects and to clarify the full circumstances surrounding this case.

The Moroccan Association for Human Rights, in correspondence with the Attorney General at the Court of Appeal in Fez, expressed severe condemnation of the situation. They highlighted concerns that the individuals implicated in this case are exerting pressure to suppress the investigation, utilizing their power and connections with the families of the minor victims to attempt to silence them. Such tactics are heightening fears among parents regarding the safety of their daughters, potentially leading to an increase in school dropout rates among girls in the area. The organization has called for transparency and thorough investigations into the case, emphasizing the need to prioritize the welfare of children.
