Remarkable Growth in Air Traffic

Moroccan airports have demonstrated impressive growth throughout 2026, welcoming a total of 22,282,997 passengers during the first seven months of the year. This figure represents an increase of 8.77% compared to the same period in 2025, as reported by the National Office of Airports (ONDA). This upward trend is observed for both international and domestic flights, with international traffic accounting for 19,894,489 travelers, marking a rise of 8.82%, while domestic flights saw 2,388,508 passengers, reflecting an increase of 8.36% year-on-year.

Key Airports Leading the Charge

The primary airports in Morocco have captured a significant share of this traffic. The Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca leads the pack with 6,953,695 passengers recorded since the start of the year. Following closely is Marrakech-Ménara Airport, which welcomed 6,407,303 travelers, while Agadir-Al Massira Airport reported 2,179,857 passengers. Additionally, Tangier Ibn Battouta and Rabat-Salé airports recorded 1,711,764 and 1,446,355 passengers, respectively. The surge in international traffic can largely be attributed to strong performance in the European market, which remains the largest source of travelers for Moroccan airports, accounting for 16,541,007 passengers, reflecting a robust annual growth of 9.29%.

Other regions have also shown significant increases; traffic from and to South America rose by 34.21%, totaling 62,880 passengers, while North American routes recorded 581,297 travelers, an increase of 14.54%. African connections also experienced growth, with a 13.74% rise to 1,175,674 passengers, and Maghreb routes grew by 10.06% to 295,188 travelers. However, in contrast, air traffic with the Middle East and the Far East saw a decline of 4.12%, dropping to 1,238,443 passengers by the end of July.

The rise in passenger numbers is accompanied by an increase in aircraft movements, with Moroccan airports recording 164,164 movements in the first seven months of 2026, which is a 9.82% increase year-on-year. The Mohammed V Airport again tops the list with 55,223 movements, followed by Marrakech-Ménara with 42,028 and Agadir-Al Massira with 15,009. Furthermore, the volume of air freight processed by Moroccan airports reached 66,980.55 tonnes by the end of July, marking a 12.61% increase compared to the first seven months of 2025. July alone confirmed this upward trend, with Moroccan airports welcoming 3,450,846 passengers, thereby solidifying the growth in air traffic observed since the beginning of the year.
