Significant Enhancements in Airport Efficiency
Recent data from Airports of Morocco reveals a remarkable improvement in the average processing times at border control points across Moroccan airports during the first half of 2026. Nationally, the average time for passport control at departure has impressively decreased to just 3.6 minutes, marking a 24% reduction compared to the previous year. Similarly, the arrival process now takes an average of 9.6 minutes, representing a 22% enhancement over 2025 figures.
Casablanca's Mohammed V Airport, being the largest in the kingdom, exemplifies this trend with travelers now clearing arrival controls in an average of 5.4 minutes, a significant drop from nearly 12 minutes one year prior, translating to a staggering 54% improvement. Departure processing times have also seen drastic reductions, now averaging only 2.25 minutes, down from approximately 7.5 minutes in the first half of 2025, which is a remarkable 70% improvement.
Marrakech Menara Airport and Network-Wide Trends
At Marrakech Menara Airport, the second busiest in Morocco, the average arrival time is now 6.86 minutes, down by 16%, while departures have improved to 5.09 minutes, a reduction of 22.5%. This positive trend is echoed across the entire airport network. For example, at Tanger Airport, arrival processing times have been cut to 11.93 minutes, showcasing a 52% enhancement. Fès Airport stands out with an impressive departure time of just 1.53 minutes, one of the fastest in the network, while Agadir continues to maintain an average arrival time below 10 minutes.
These exceptional results can be attributed to the strategic initiatives undertaken by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) and the Ministry of Interior, focusing on optimizing and reinforcing border controls while maintaining the highest standards of safety and security. These advancements align with the Airports 2030 strategy, which aims to enhance passenger experience at Moroccan airports, indicating a strong commitment to infrastructural transformation and service excellence.
