Significant Growth in Air Travel in Morocco
The National Airports Office of Morocco has reported a remarkable surge in air travel, with the country’s airports welcoming a total of 18,831,461 passengers during the first six months of 2026. This marks an impressive increase of 8.83% compared to the same period in 2025. The data, released in the statistics related to commercial air transport for June 2026, highlights a notable rise in both international and domestic air travel.
International air traffic saw a growth rate of 8.86%, accommodating 16,835,752 travelers, while domestic flights experienced an increase of 8.6%, bringing in 1,995,709 passengers. The Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca led the charge, receiving 5,756,388 passengers, which represents a growth of 10.13%. Following closely were Marrakesh Menara Airport with 5,636,776 passengers, Agadir Al Massira with 1,878,974, Tangier Ibn Battouta with 1,402,756, and Rabat-Salé Airport with 1,217,574 passengers.
International and Domestic Traffic Trends
The positive performance of international air travel can be largely attributed to the strong recovery of the European market, which continues to be the primary source of travelers to Morocco, contributing over 14 million passengers—a year-on-year increase of 9%. Furthermore, air traffic from South America surged by an impressive 34.31%, reaching 53,807 travelers. African and North American markets also showed robust growth, with increases of 15.23% to 971,193 passengers and 15.46% to 461,695 passengers, respectively. Additionally, travel from Maghreb countries rose by 11%, totaling 244,069 passengers. However, air traffic from the Middle East and the Far East experienced a decline of 5.66%, amounting to 1,044,129 passengers.
In total, the National Airports Office recorded 138,353 aircraft movements by the end of June, reflecting a 9.65% increase compared to the same period last year. The Mohammed V Airport again topped this activity with 45,824 movements, followed by Marrakesh Menara with 36,795 and Agadir Al Massira with 12,962 movements. Air freight also saw substantial growth, totaling 57,828.11 tons in the first half of the year, which is a 12.3% increase compared to the same timeframe in 2025. Just in June 2026, Moroccan airports received 3,116,576 passengers, marking a 5.83% increase.
