Intensive Operations Uncover Criminal Network
The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), operating under the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), conducted a series of decisive operations on April 5 and 6, leading to the dismantling of a terrorist cell comprising six individuals. These suspects are believed to have engaged in a range of criminal activities motivated by extremist ideologies, including theft, burglary, and the laundering of illicit proceeds under the infamous practice known as 'legitimization of spoils.'
According to a press release from the BCIJ, the arrests occurred during separate operations in various locations, including Kenitra, Casablanca, the Dar El Gueddari region of Sidi Kacem province, and Sidi Taïbi. The operations were marked by the execution of search warrants that yielded significant findings, including extremist literature, weapons of various calibers—both sharp and blunt—and cash in Moroccan dirhams suspected to be derived from criminal undertakings.
Criminal Activities and Ongoing Investigations
The search and seizure operations also uncovered paraphernalia typical of criminal enterprises, such as balaclavas, gloves, and three vehicles—two of which were cargo vans, along with a motorcycle believed to have been utilized in the execution of the crimes. Investigative efforts, bolstered by police surveillance, revealed that the suspects, deeply entrenched in extremist ideology, had recently orchestrated theft and burglary as part of a broader criminal conspiracy aimed at profiting from their illicit activities.
The modus operandi of these individuals involved targeting livestock farms in several rural areas near Kenitra and Sidi Slimane, where they would carry out thefts before reselling the stolen goods in local markets, notably in Joumaa Shim, located in the Safi province, and in Zemamra, in the Sidi Bennour province. As investigations continue, authorities are focused on uncovering the full extent of the criminal activities attributed to these suspects, establishing connections between their crimes and extremist affiliations, and identifying further accomplices.
In light of the ongoing judicial investigation, the suspects have been placed in police custody as inquiries progress under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which handles cases related to terrorism and extremism. The BCIJ remains committed to unraveling this complex web of criminality and preventing future acts linked to extremist ideologies.
