Celebrating Culinary Excellence: Nawal Rezagui's Journey to Michelin Stardom
Nawal Rezagui, a talented chef of Moroccan descent, has recently made headlines by earning her first Michelin star as part of the prestigious Michelin Guide 2026. Leading the kitchen at her restaurant, l’Alcôve, Rezagui is celebrated for her exceptional culinary journey that highlights Mediterranean flavors. The 43-year-old chef, who proudly dons her newly embroidered apron, relishes this remarkable achievement that she received in mid-March. According to France Bleu, she stands out as one of only three women awarded this year by the gastronomic institution.
Having moved to France fourteen years ago, Rezagui initially pursued long academic studies, but her passion for cooking, rooted in her childhood in Morocco, ultimately called her back to the culinary world. "I learned to make bread at the age of six, with my mother and grandmother," she recalls fondly. It was during a temporary return to her homeland that her true calling emerged. Partnered with her husband, a pastry chef, she rediscovered the aromatic spices of her childhood, evoking the cherished memory of her first tajine, which served as an emotional trigger for her culinary ambitions.
From Apprenticeship to Acclaim: The Path of Dedication
Determined to excel in her craft, Rezagui pursued various professional training opportunities, accumulating experience from Marseille to Germany. Guided by her epicurean spirit, she shares, "Creating dishes filled my eyes with stars." Since March 2024, she has been showcasing her culinary talents in Champagne-Ardenne. With her dream of earning a Michelin star now realized, she looks forward to inviting her mother to taste her signature dish: a smoked tuna enhanced with Moroccan spices.
