Moroccan Cinema Festivals Get Financial Boost

The Moroccan Cinema Center has recently announced the results of its support program for film festivals for the July 2026 cycle, allocating a total budget of 26 million and 460 thousand dirhams to benefit 40 film festivals and events across various regions of the country. This decision came after an extensive review of 55 applications submitted for financial assistance.

The announcement followed a series of meetings conducted by the committee responsible for supporting the organization of film festivals, which took place between July 21 and 23 at the headquarters of the Moroccan Cinema Center, chaired by Khadija Alami Al-Arousi. The committee carefully examined the applications and listened to the festival organizers who presented their projects and advocated for their proposals before the final decisions regarding funding were made.

According to the results statement from the committee, the Marrakech International Film Festival secured the largest share of the financial support, receiving an impressive allocation of 12 million dirhams. This was followed by the National Film Festival in Tangier, which benefited from 7.5 million dirhams. The Tetouan Mediterranean Film Festival received 1.2 million dirhams, while the International Women's Film Festival in Salé was granted 1 million dirhams. Additionally, the Rabat International Author Film Festival received 800 thousand dirhams in support.

The list of funded festivals also includes numerous international and national film events taking place across various Moroccan cities, including Oujda, Zakoura, Ouzoud, Nador, Agadir, Fes, Khouribga, Erfoud, and others. These range from specialized short film festivals to educational cinema events and social cinema initiatives, with funding amounts varying from 30 thousand to 480 thousand dirhams.

The distribution of supported festivals spans several cities, including Marrakech, Tangier, Tetouan, Salé, Rabat, Oujda, Zakoura, Agadir, Nador, Fes, Khouribga, and Erfoud. This reflects the diversity of film events receiving support on a national level, showcasing the rich cultural landscape of Moroccan cinema.
