Moroccan Contributions to Jerusalem: A Commitment of 35 Million Dirhams Annually

Morocco's Financial Support for Jerusalem

The management of the Jerusalem Fund, led by Mohamed Salem Al-Sharqawi, has revealed that Moroccan institutions and private actors contribute approximately 35 million dirhams annually to support various programs and projects aimed at aiding the city of Jerusalem and its residents. This financial support is in addition to the operational budget, which is fully funded by Morocco. Since 2011, Morocco has been the sole financier of the operational budget of the Fund, which amounts to around 23 million dirhams each year. The contributions from private entities effectively mobilize additional resources of nearly 35 million dirhams annually, enhancing the funding of field projects within the holy city.

During an informative meeting organized by the Jerusalem Fund in the city of Fez, Al-Sharqawi highlighted that the agency has continued to implement its programs despite the challenging conditions faced in Palestinian territories. The total budget for interventions from October 2023 to December 2025 is projected to be around 14.2 million dollars, with more than 3 million dollars allocated specifically for humanitarian and emergency assistance directed toward the Gaza Strip, as part of the solidarity efforts initiated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the President of the Jerusalem Committee.

Partnerships and Progress in Governance

Furthermore, Al-Sharqawi provided an overview of the first year of implementing a partnership agreement signed between the Jerusalem Fund and the city of Fez in July 2025, which has a total financial allocation of 10 million dirhams over five years. The first tranche of the contribution from the city of Fez, amounting to 2 million dirhams for the year 2025, has facilitated the financing of 300 scholarships for Jerusalem students worth 750,000 dirhams, direct support for Palestinian families in Jerusalem and surrounding villages amounting to 740,000 dirhams, and financial assistance to the sports club of the African Community Association in the Old City of Jerusalem, totaling 510,000 dirhams.

In addition to financial contributions, Al-Sharqawi emphasized the agency's advancements in governance and transparency, culminating in obtaining the **ISO 9001:2015** international compliance certification. This achievement underscores the ongoing commitment to enhancing the effectiveness of social and developmental programs targeted at the residents of Jerusalem.
