Moroccan Support for Jerusalem: A Commitment of 35 Million Dirhams Annually
In a significant display of solidarity, Moroccan private institutions and individuals are contributing nearly 35 million dirhams each year to support the initiatives and projects of the Al-Quds Fund. This financial backing is crucial for the agency's ongoing efforts to assist the city of Jerusalem and its inhabitants. According to Mohamed Salem El-Charkawi, the director responsible for managing the Al-Quds Fund, Morocco has been the sole provider of the agency's operational budget since 2011, amounting to approximately 23 million dirhams annually. The additional contributions from various private entities help mobilize supplementary resources close to 35 million dirhams each year, aimed at financing practical projects in the holy city.
El-Charkawi elaborated during an informational meeting held in Fes that the agency continues to implement its programs despite the challenging circumstances faced in Palestinian territories. From October 2023 to December 2025, the overall budget allocated for interventions reached a total of $14.2 million, with over $3 million designated for emergency humanitarian assistance directed towards Gaza. This initiative aligns with the solidarity mobilization spearheaded by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Chairman of the Jerusalem Committee.
In addition, El-Charkawi highlighted the accomplishments of the first year of the partnership agreement established between the Al-Quds Fund and the municipality of Fes, which was signed in July 2025 and involves a total financial commitment of 10 million dirhams over five years. The initial contribution of 2 million dirhams from the municipality for 2025 has already facilitated 300 scholarships for Jerusalemite students, valued at 750,000 dirhams. Furthermore, direct support has been provided to Palestinian families in Jerusalem and surrounding villages amounting to 740,000 dirhams, alongside a donation of 510,000 dirhams to support the sports club of the African community association in the Old City of Jerusalem.
Moreover, El-Charkawi emphasized the progress made by the agency in governance and transparency, which culminated in obtaining the international compliance certificate **ISO 9001:2015**. The agency remains committed to enhancing the efficiency of social and developmental programs aimed at the residents of Jerusalem, ensuring that this critical support continues in the face of ongoing challenges.
