Legal Action Against Morocco Athletic Club
A Moroccan court has issued a ruling to seize a significant amount of 273 million dirhams from the funds owed to the football club, Morocco Athletic Club, by the National Professional Football League. This order serves the interests of the club's former president, Abdelmalek Abroun, who has been embroiled in a long-standing dispute over financial entitlements from the club.
According to court documents from the commercial court in Rabat, Abroun, represented by his legal counsel, filed a request for the seizure of these funds as part of a judicial process addressing outstanding financial claims. The court's ruling is grounded in a prior payment order issued by the commercial court in Casablanca on July 23, 2025, mandating the payment of an original sum of 2,730,100 dirhams, which equates to 273 million dirhams, inclusive of interest and associated legal costs.
In an exclusive statement to "Alyaoum24," Abroun articulated that this seized amount represents a "vested right" that has been pending for over a decade. He emphasized, "This is a right I have held for ten years, and I have consistently sought the payment of this amount." Abroun further explained that over the years, various agreements had been reached between him and the club, but none were honored, stating, "Every time they would enter into an agreement and then subsequently break it." He noted that in 2025, a new agreement was reached with the club regarding the settlement of his dues, but he has yet to receive the agreed-upon amount.
Additionally, Abroun mentioned that to facilitate the resolution of this matter, he had agreed to waive a portion of his claims, indicating, "I have allowed for half of it, and the other half is what I am owed." This legal action occurs during a challenging period for Morocco Athletic Club, which is already facing multiple financial obligations, thereby adding further strain to the club's fiscal stability, especially given that a portion of its revenue is tied to its financial claims against the National Professional Football League.
The enforcement of this seizure is likely to impact the financial resources that the club was expected to utilize, pending the outcomes of the ongoing judicial proceedings related to this case.
