Moroccan Representation at the Grand Magal of Touba
A Moroccan delegation recently took part in the official celebrations of the 132nd Grand Magal of Touba, held in the heart of Senegal. This significant event commemorates the exile of Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba Mbacké, the founder of the Mouride Brotherhood. Leading the Moroccan delegation was Mohammed Khorbat, President of the Scientific Council of the Marrakech-Safi region, who was warmly received by the General Caliph of the Mouride Brotherhood, Sheikh Mountakha Mbacké. During this meeting, the Caliph expressed heartfelt gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI for his unwavering commitment to promoting Islam, peace, and spiritual values across Africa.
The Moroccan delegation also included Mustafa Selimi, the President of the Local Scientific Council of Safi, Karim Jiali, President of the Local Scientific Council of Settat, and Abdel Salam Belghiti Alawi, President of the Local Scientific Council of Boulemane, along with members of the Moroccan embassy in Dakar. In a statement to the Moroccan News Agency, Khorbat emphasized that this visit symbolizes Morocco's desire, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to strengthen its religious ties with Senegal, which date back several centuries.
Strengthening Historic Ties and Religious Values
Khorbat highlighted the unique nature of the historical relationship between Morocco and Senegal, underscoring the kingdom's commitment to enhancing its partnerships with Senegal across various fields, particularly in religious matters. He reiterated the importance of preserving shared religious and national values between the Moroccan monarchy and the Mouride Brotherhood, advocating for a moderate and peaceful Islam that fosters coexistence and tolerance.
Abdel Kader Mbacké, an advisor to the General Caliph and his spokesperson, also emphasized the depth of the historical ties that connect the two nations, which have persisted through generations. He conveyed the General Caliph's sincere appreciation for the Kingdom of Morocco. Mbacké remarked that the participation of the Moroccan delegation in the Grand Magal of Touba is a clear demonstration of the enduring commitment to strengthening the fraternal bonds between the two countries. He praised the significant role played by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in promoting Islam in Africa, enhancing cooperation with several African nations, and training imams, preachers, and religious guides.

The official festivities of the 132nd Grand Magal of Touba were marked by the presence of members of the Senegalese government, foreign delegations, diplomatic representatives accredited in Dakar, and thousands of followers from Senegal and beyond. The Grand Magal of Touba is considered the largest religious event on the continent, reflecting the deep reverence and honor that followers hold for its founder, Ahmadou Bamba Mbacké, whose full name is Ahmed ben Mohammed ben Habib Allah.
