Moroccan Embassy in France Takes Legal Action Over Flag Incident

Legal Action by Moroccan Embassy Following Flag Incident

The Moroccan Embassy in France has announced that it has filed a legal complaint regarding an incident of flag desecration and incitement to hatred that took place in the Quatre-Chemins neighborhood of Aubervilliers. This incident occurred on July 4, when individuals publicly tore down, burned, and defaced a Moroccan flag while chanting slogans indicating their Algerian origins. The embassy condemned these actions, which transpired after the Morocco-Canada match during the 2026 World Cup.

In a statement, the embassy described the act as a serious violation of an official symbol of national sovereignty and unity. It expressed that such actions deeply offend Moroccan nationals residing in France, Franco-Moroccans, and all individuals who value respect, dignity, and coexistence. The embassy asserted that nothing could justify this act, which it claims was a deliberate attempt to provoke and incite hatred, thereby disturbing public order.

Furthermore, the embassy reported that other video evidence shows women wearing the national football team jersey accompanied by young children were verbally assaulted and faced intimidation from the same group of individuals responsible for the flag incident. The embassy extended its gratitude to the French authorities, including the police and the Aubervilliers town hall, for their response to the situation. It reiterated its commitment to maintaining public order, adhering to the laws of the French Republic, and respecting the symbols of all nations.

Lastly, the embassy emphasized that sporting celebrations should remain festive and peaceful occasions, filled with joy, unity, and mutual respect.
