Moroccan Financial Sector Assets Reach 3.83 Trillion Dirhams in 2025, Signaling Growth and Diversification

As of July 28, 2025, the Moroccan financial sector has witnessed significant growth, with total assets amounting to approximately 3.83 trillion dirhams, which is equivalent to around 409 billion dollars. This marks an impressive annual increase of 11.2%, representing a substantial 223% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). These findings are outlined in the Financial Stability Report for the fiscal year 2025, which was jointly released by Bank Al-Maghrib, Morocco's central bank, the Insurance and Social Welfare Control Authority (ACAPS), and the Moroccan Capital Market Authority (AMMC).

The banking sector continues to be the cornerstone of Morocco's financial system, maintaining a stable share of 61% of total financial assets. This solid foundation underscores the importance of banks in the overall economic landscape of the nation.

In addition to banking, the capital market has been on a progressive path, driven primarily by the growth of collective investment schemes. Consequently, the share of capital market assets in the total financial system has increased from 23% in 2024 to 25% in 2025, highlighting the sector's ongoing development.

The report also points out a notable shift in the financial sector's contribution to the market capitalization of the Casablanca Stock Exchange, which has decreased to 34.55% from 39.06% the previous year. This capitalization encompasses seven banks, five insurance companies, and five financing firms, indicating a more diversified structure of the Casablanca Stock Exchange. This diversification is largely attributed to an increasing reliance on capital markets for financing among businesses, showcasing a progressive shift in investment strategies within the Moroccan economy.
