The Moroccan Front for Support of Palestine and Against Normalization (FMSPCN) has announced a series of nationwide protests set to take place from September 25 to 27, 2026, in opposition to the Moroccan government’s decision to intensify and broaden its official normalization with Israel, referred to derogatorily as the 'Zionist entity.' This call to action was disseminated through the group’s official social media platforms on Friday, highlighting their firm stance against any form of normalization between Morocco and Israel.
In conjunction with the protest announcement, FMSPCN released a flyer over the weekend urging the Moroccan government to halt normalization efforts and reject the establishment of a Zionist embassy in Morocco. This mobilization comes on the heels of a significant diplomatic meeting that took place in the United States on September 16, where Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar engaged with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, alongside U.S. Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz. This meeting coincided with the sixth anniversary of the signing of the Abraham Accords, a pivotal moment in the normalization of relations between Israel and several Arab nations.
Reports indicate that Sa'ar and Bourita are scheduled to conduct additional discussions in the U.S. during the period of the forthcoming protests, aligning with the ongoing United Nations General Assembly meetings. FMSPCN expressed concern over these developments, asserting that a representative from the Moroccan Foreign Ministry is engaging with Israeli and American officials in New York to discuss elevating Moroccan-Israeli relations to include the establishment of embassies and the exchange of ambassadors, in addition to enhancing flights and fortifying economic, military, and security agreements.
FMSPCN vehemently opposes these initiatives, contending that they occur amidst ongoing violations against the Palestinian people, including acts of violence, displacement, and the desecration of holy sites such as the al-Aqsa Mosque. The group firmly asserts that establishing normal relations with a state characterized by occupation and alleged crimes against humanity is fundamentally flawed, stating unequivocally, 'Normal relations cannot be built with an abnormal entity based on occupation, genocide, ethnic cleansing, and displacement.'
In a bold declaration, FMSPCN maintains its principled stance that 'Palestine is not a bargaining chip,' emphasizing that the Palestinian cause is rooted in the struggle for freedom and justice. The group believes that normalization will neither erase the historical injustices faced by Palestinians nor silence the voices of Moroccan citizens advocating for Palestine.
