Moroccan Initiative Celebrates U.S. Relations

Commemorating 250 Years of Moroccan-American Relations

In a significant celebration marking the 250th anniversary of Moroccan-American relations, the Moroccan American Network is set to host the tenth edition of "Morocco Day" on June 7 in Alexandria, Virginia. This commemorative event not only honors Morocco's historic role as the first country to recognize the independence of the United States in 1777 but also aims to enhance bilateral ties as we look towards the future.

The theme for this year’s event, "Engineering the Future of Entrepreneurship," will serve as a strategic platform bringing together prominent professionals and entrepreneurs. The focus will be on exploring promising economic opportunities through "digital highway" sessions designed to boost investment in Moroccan regions such as Zagora and Dakhla. A press release from the organizing committee highlights the initiative's goal of facilitating direct business-to-business interactions between American, Moroccan, and African business communities, while raising awareness of the strategic importance of the existing free trade agreement between the two nations.

Honoring Historical Ties and Future Partnerships

The year 2026 carries a double significance, not only commemorating the first decade of Morocco Day but also honoring the legacy of Sultan Mohammed ben Abdallah and the Treaty of Peace and Friendship established in 1786, which stands as the longest-standing treaty in U.S. history. The event will also spotlight the American Legation in Tangier as a symbol of the enduring friendship between the two peoples. The Moroccan American Network emphasized that this year’s Morocco Day revolves around two key pillars: the preservation of the national identity of the Moroccan diaspora, particularly among youth, and the promotion of "digital diplomacy" through leveraging media and communications expertise to build a digital bridge linking Washington and Rabat. This initiative aims to transform historical relationships into tangible partnerships among small businesses.

Furthermore, Morocco Day activities are presented as a testament to the success of long-term investments in innovative ideas, connecting cities like Washington, Miami, and Los Angeles with the heart of Morocco. This effort is paving the way for a new century of cooperation based on technology and shared prosperity between Morocco and the United States.
