Moroccan Journalist Union Condemns Demands for Eid Sacrifice Support for Non-Professional Reporters

The regional writer of the National Union of Moroccan Journalists in the Marrakech-Safi region, Moulay Abdel Wahid Talbi, has vehemently condemned an article published on a news website that calls on local authorities to provide "Eid sacrifice" support to so-called "reporters." Talbi argued that this demand represents a serious and unacceptable insult to the professional standing and social status of legitimate journalists, describing the content of the publication as a form of "begging and solicitation" that undermines the dignity of the profession and its ethical principles.

Furthermore, the union leader clarified that the National Union of Moroccan Journalists, being the most representative body in the sector, distances itself from such reckless behaviors exhibited by a group engaged in exploitation and impersonation. He emphasized that journalism is a profession governed by clear laws and has its foundational bodies that work to safeguard the basic rights of all its members, asserting that there are no professionals among them who "struggle to find their daily bread or stand at the doors of charity begging."

Talbi also called upon the Wali of Marrakech-Safi, Khalid Lahbil, to enforce the law and rigorously investigate the identity of anyone approaching the state's services claiming to represent journalists without any official status or representation. He urged the administration to cease any distribution of public funds under the pretext of assisting "unpaid reporters," announcing that the union reserves its full rights to pursue legal action against anyone involved in defaming the media sector or promoting a distorted image that tarnishes the reputation of its workers.
