In a significant diplomatic gesture, King Mohammed VI of Morocco has sent two letters to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, who also serves as the Prime Minister. In these communications, the Moroccan monarch expressed his solidarity with Saudi Arabia in light of the repeated assaults launched by Houthi militias against its territory. Expressing the condemnation of Morocco, both personally and on behalf of the Moroccan people, King Mohammed VI denounced these "criminal acts" and attributed responsibility to the Houthi militias and their backers, who provide funding and arms. He called for accountability and penalties in accordance with international law in response to these aggressive actions.
The Moroccan monarch reiterated that the security and stability of Saudi Arabia, akin to that of other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations, is an inseparable part of Morocco's own security. He affirmed that Morocco stands firmly alongside Saudi Arabia in confronting risks that threaten its safety and stability.
Furthermore, he warned that the ongoing attacks by Houthi militias, which he described as being supported by regional powers, pose a threat not only to regional security and stability but also to vital maritime corridors and international navigation security, with potential repercussions for the global economy. In this context, he underscored that the continuation of such aggressions constitutes a violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216 issued in 2015 and Resolution 2722 issued in 2024 concerning attacks on maritime navigation.
King Mohammed VI asserted that targeting civilian areas, economic facilities, and sacred sites represents a breach of international humanitarian law and global conventions and norms, stating that such acts "cannot go unpunished or unaccounted for."
