The Progress and Socialism Party has intensified its response to what it deems an "organizational breach" within its ranks by announcing the suspension of Mohammed Al-Khattab, the Deputy Mayor of Fez and a member of its central committee. This decision comes in the wake of accusations that Al-Khattab participated in activities supporting a candidate from the Authenticity and Modernity Party.
In a statement released following a recent meeting of its political bureau, the party clarified that the decision was made after examining a report that addressed the organizational situation of its Fez regional branch. The report included information regarding actions attributed to Al-Khattab, which were viewed as violations of the party's principles and regulations.
According to circulating information, the decision was influenced by Al-Khattab's attendance at meetings and activities backing Aziz Labbar, the candidate from the Authenticity and Modernity Party in the southern Fez constituency, who also holds a position in the board managing the city of Fez.
The political bureau emphasized that the suspension is grounded in the party's values and organizational culture, as well as the political and organizational responsibilities shouldered by Al-Khattab as a central committee member and an elected representative in the Fez municipal council. This entails a commitment to uphold party affiliation obligations.
Moreover, the party did not stop at merely suspending Al-Khattab; it also retained the right to resort to various legal and judicial procedures permitted by the regulatory law concerning political parties, should the developments of the case necessitate such action.
Additionally, the political bureau decided to notify the National Committee for Political Monitoring and Arbitration, along with other relevant party bodies and organizations, about the membership suspension in order to arrange the ensuing organizational implications.
