Significant Drug Seizure by Moroccan Authorities
In a decisive action against drug trafficking, Moroccan police successfully seized an impressive 2.96 tonnes of cannabis resin, commonly known as chira, on Friday. This operation was executed by the National Judicial Police Brigade (BNPJ), which relied on crucial intelligence provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST). The meticulous planning and coordination between these agencies underscore their commitment to combating drug-related crimes and ensuring public safety.
The operation unfolded on the outskirts of Ben Slimane, where law enforcement officers intercepted a utility vehicle suspected of transporting illegal drugs. After initiating a police pursuit, the driver of the vehicle attempted to evade capture by fleeing in the wrong direction on a nearby highway. This reckless maneuver ultimately led him to abandon the vehicle near the vicinity of Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport, from where he managed to escape.
Upon conducting a thorough search of the abandoned vehicle, authorities discovered an astonishing 75 packages of cannabis resin, amounting to a total weight of 2.96 tonnes. This significant quantity illustrates the scale of the drug trafficking operation that was successfully disrupted by Moroccan police.
In response to this incident, the BNPJ has initiated a judicial investigation, which is being supervised by the relevant public prosecutor’s office. The primary objective of this investigation is to identify the driver and apprehend all individuals associated with the criminal network responsible for this extensive drug trafficking operation. This proactive approach not only aims to bring those involved to justice but also serves as a crucial step in dismantling the larger drug distribution networks operating within and beyond Morocco.
