Moroccan Project Blocks Al Ahly's First Transfer of the New Season
Al Ahly SC, one of Egypt's most storied football clubs, has recently faced a significant setback in its pursuit of new players for the upcoming season. The club aimed to secure the services of Sufyan Benjida, a prolific striker currently playing for Moroccan club FUS Rabat. However, despite initial negotiations, FUS Rabat has firmly declined to part ways with their star player, leaving Al Ahly in a challenging position as they prepare for the new season.
In statements made by Hicham Zarouki, the general manager of FUS Rabat, he confirmed that there are currently no ongoing negotiations with Al Ahly regarding the transfer of Benjida. He emphasized the club's commitment to retaining the player, who recently extended his contract with the team until 2030. Zarouki further elaborated that FUS Rabat is focused on a significant sports project and views Benjida as an integral part of that vision, hence their decision to renew his contract and reject any transfer offers from Al Ahly.
This news comes as a blow to Al Ahly as they look to strengthen their squad in preparation for the new season. The club has a long-standing reputation for acquiring top talent, and losing out on Benjida could hinder their plans to bolster their attacking options. As the summer transfer window approaches, Al Ahly will need to reassess their targets and explore other opportunities to enhance their squad depth.
