Celebrating Moroccan Heritage in Thailand
In a remarkable cultural initiative, the Royal Moroccan Embassy in Thailand is set to host the Moroccan Week of Traditional Crafts in Bangkok from July 22 to July 28, 2026. This event commemorates the 27th anniversary of His Majesty King Mohammed VI's ascension to the throne, showcasing the rich tapestry of Moroccan craftsmanship. Organized in collaboration with the regional chambers of traditional crafts from Marrakech-Safi and Casablanca-Settat, alongside the Ministry of State responsible for traditional crafts and social economy, this week-long event aims to elevate Morocco’s cultural and heritage presence on the international stage.
Themed "Traditional Crafts and Moroccan Intangible Heritage: A Catalyst for Strengthening the Cultural and Civilizational Influence of the Kingdom on the Global Scene," the event aligns with the royal directives to value national heritage and enhance its visibility in international markets. This endeavor not only serves as a platform for economic and cultural development but also acts as a bridge for dialogue among civilizations.
Showcasing Moroccan Craftsmanship
The Moroccan pavilion will be inaugurated at the EMSPHERE Mall in Bangkok, featuring around thirty booths that will display a diverse range of traditional Moroccan products. This exhibition will afford visitors the opportunity to experience the richness and variety of Moroccan craftsmanship, as well as the quality and authenticity of its products. Furthermore, the pavilion aims to open new horizons for Moroccan artisans by facilitating their connections with foreign markets and enhancing collaboration with economic actors in Thailand.
The Moroccan Week will also encompass a variety of cultural and artistic activities, including demonstrations and workshops on Moroccan zellige (tilework), calligraphy, wood painting, traditional weaving, and pottery. Additionally, there will be dedicated spaces for Moroccan tea, cooking shows, and tastings of traditional sweets and dishes, all reflecting the richness of Moroccan cultural heritage.
One of the highlights of this event will be a special fashion show featuring the Moroccan caftan on July 23 at the Column Hotel in Bangkok. This traditional attire represents a significant symbol of Moroccan identity, showcasing exceptional design, craftsmanship, and creativity.
On an institutional and economic level, the week will feature a series of meetings led by the Moroccan Ambassador to Thailand, involving representatives from the Ministry of State for Traditional Crafts and Social Economy, as well as the presidents of the traditional craft chambers from Marrakech-Safi and Casablanca-Settat. Meetings will also be held with the Thai Chamber of Commerce, the Community Development sector of the Thai Ministry of Interior, the Thai Federation of Industries, and the Thai Institute for the Development of Traditional Arts and Crafts. These discussions will focus on enhancing the exchange of economic delegations, organizing joint economic weeks and exhibitions, fostering cooperation between Thai companies and Moroccan cooperatives, and encouraging mutual participation in trade shows and professional meetings, all aimed at expanding commercial exchanges in decoration, hospitality, luxury industries, and establishing technical exchange programs to build sustainable partnerships that integrate Moroccan expertise with Thai industries.
