Hassan II University and UM6P Achieve Notable Rankings
The Hassan II University of Casablanca has successfully secured its position within the 901-1,000 range of the global university rankings for the third consecutive year, having previously appeared in the years 2024 and 2025. Meanwhile, the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) has made a remarkable debut in the overall ranking, a notable achievement considering its prior recognition was limited to sector-specific rankings from Shanghai.
Comparative Performance and Research Indicators
When examining the research-related metrics, both institutions exhibit comparable results. In terms of the presence of highly cited researchers (HiCi indicator), both universities have achieved an equivalent score of 7.4. However, UM6P surpasses Hassan II University slightly in the number of publications in prestigious journals such as Nature and Science, with scores of 3.5 and 3.0, respectively. Furthermore, UM6P leads in the overall volume of scientific publications cataloged, scoring 19.8 compared to Hassan II's 19.5, and also stands out in performance relative to institutional size with scores of 8.9 and 8.8 respectively. Despite these achievements, neither university has gained points in the areas concerning Nobel Prizes or Fields Medals, whether attributed to their alumni or faculty members.
Beyond the overall ranking, UM6P distinguishes itself in specific thematic rankings, placing within the top 100 globally for mining and mineral engineering, and ranking among the top 500 institutions in both electrical engineering and agricultural sciences.
On the international stage, there are no changes at the top of the rankings, with Harvard University maintaining its number one position, a status it has held since the establishment of the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) in 2003. Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) complete the top three, followed closely by esteemed institutions such as Cambridge, Berkeley, Princeton, Oxford, Columbia, Caltech, the University of Chicago, and the California Institute of Technology, rounding out the top ten.
This annual ranking, compiled by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, evaluates over 2,500 institutions worldwide based on six indicators focused on scientific output, publication impact, and major academic awards.
