Moroccan Workers Lead in the Spanish Labor Market
In 2025, the Moroccan community made significant strides in Spain's labor market, asserting its dominance as the largest group of foreign workers registered under the Spanish social security system. The total number of foreign workers in Spain reached a record high of 3,085,477, reflecting an annual increase of 204,299 individuals compared to 2024. This surge underscores the crucial role foreign workers play in bolstering the Spanish economy, with Moroccan nationals leading the ranks with 373,436 registered workers. Following them are Romanian workers, who number 336,530, and Colombian workers at 250,248.
In just the past year, the number of Moroccan contributors grew by 26,893, marking one of the strongest growth rates among foreign worker demographics, second only to Venezuelans and Colombians. The Spanish Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migration has highlighted that foreign labor is now a vital driver across several key sectors. For instance, foreign workers constitute 29% of the workforce in the hospitality and tourism sector, 26% in agriculture, and over 23% in construction, indicating a notable presence of Moroccan workers in these fields.
The increase in foreign workers is particularly pronounced in regions such as Asturias, Extremadura, and Galicia, suggesting a rising demand for labor in areas beyond the traditional economic hubs. As Spain closed the year 2025, it not only recorded a historic number of over 3.1 million active foreign workers but also illustrated the pivotal role that the Moroccan community plays in this evolving economic landscape.
