Significant Support from Moroccan Institutions for Jerusalem
In a recent announcement, Mohamed Salem Al-Sharqawi, the director responsible for managing the Al-Quds Agency, revealed that Moroccan institutions and private actors contribute approximately 35 million dirhams each year to support programs and projects aimed at benefiting Jerusalem and its inhabitants. This funding is in addition to the annual operational budget, which is fully financed by the Moroccan government.
During an informative meeting held by the Al-Quds Agency in the city of Fez, Al-Sharqawi emphasized that since 2011, Morocco has been the sole financier of the agency's operational budget, which is estimated at around 23 million dirhams annually. Contributions from various institutions and private actors mobilize additional resources amounting to nearly 35 million dirhams each year, specifically allocated for field projects in the holy city.
Despite the challenging conditions faced in Palestinian territories, the agency has continued to implement its programs effectively. From October 2023 to December 2025, the total budget for its interventions reached approximately $14.2 million, with over $3 million designated for humanitarian and emergency assistance directed towards the Gaza sector as part of the solidarity mobilization launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee.
Moreover, Al-Sharqawi reviewed the outcomes of the first year of implementing the partnership agreement signed between the Al-Quds Agency and the municipality of Fez in July 2025, which allocated a total financial envelope of 10 million dirhams over five years. The first installment of the municipality's contribution, amounting to 2 million dirhams for the year 2025, enabled the funding of 300 scholarships for Jerusalemite students valued at 750,000 dirhams and provided direct support to Palestinian families in Jerusalem and surrounding villages totaling 740,000 dirhams. Additionally, support was given to the sports club of the African Community Association in the Old Town of Jerusalem, amounting to 510,000 dirhams.
Al-Sharqawi also highlighted the progress made by the agency in governance and transparency, culminating in the receipt of the international compliance certificate **ISO 9001:2015**. He affirmed the agency's commitment to enhancing the effectiveness of social and developmental programs aimed at the residents of Al-Quds.
