Morocco's Human Rights Allegations Against Spain
In a recent development, the Moroccan Organization for Human Rights (OMDH) has submitted a comprehensive report detailing alleged human rights violations faced by irregular migrants in Ceuta and Melilla during July. This report highlights the organization's commitment to appealing to international institutions to condemn such practices. Nawfal Bouamri, the president of OMDH, stated that approximately 40,000 irregular migrants endured various forms of violence, including physical assaults and injuries, as well as deliberate deprivation of food and water. He emphasized that the human rights of these individuals were not safeguarded in accordance with international agreements.
In response to these allegations, Morocco has taken a firm stance, asserting that Spain has failed to protect the rights of these vulnerable migrants. The claims add to the ongoing tension between the two nations regarding migration issues, particularly in light of the significant number of individuals attempting to cross into Spain from northern Africa. The situation continues to draw international attention as various humanitarian organizations call for an urgent review of the conditions faced by migrants.
