The Support Commission for the Organization of Film Festivals, under the auspices of the Moroccan Cinematic Center (CCM), has made a significant decision to allocate a total of 26,460,000 dirhams to support 40 national film festivals and events. This decision was reached during a meeting held from July 21 to July 23 at the CCM headquarters in Rabat, where the commission reviewed 55 applications and welcomed festival organizers who presented and defended their projects before its members, as stated in a press release from the institution.
Marrakech and Tangier Lead the Way
The International Film Festival of Marrakech, now in its 23rd edition, topped the list of beneficiaries with a generous grant of 12 million dirhams. Following closely is the 26th edition of the National Film Festival of Tangier, organized by the CCM itself, which received support amounting to 7.5 million dirhams. Additionally, the 31st edition of the Tetouan Mediterranean Film Festival was awarded 1.2 million dirhams, while the 19th edition of the International Women's Film Festival in Salé secured a grant of 1 million dirhams.
Graduated Support for Various Events
The remaining funds are distributed among numerous events organized across different regions of the Kingdom, including: 800,000 dirhams for the 31st edition of the International Author Cinema Festival in Rabat, 480,000 dirhams for the 15th edition of the International Maghreb Film Festival in Oujda, and 300,000 dirhams each for the 20th edition of the International Trans-Saharan Film Festival in Zagora and the 4th edition of the International Mountain Cinema Festival in Aoulouz. Moreover, 250,000 dirhams were allocated to the 15th edition of the International Cinema of Common Memory Festival in Nador, and 200,000 dirhams each for the 22nd edition of the International Cinema and Migration Festival in Agadir and the 11th edition of the International Film Schools Festival in Tetouan.
Additional festivals also received funding ranging from 50,000 to 170,000 dirhams, including the Ciné Plage Festival in Herhoura, the Marrakech Short Film Festival, the National Amateur Film Festival in Settat, the International Cinema and Sea Festival in Mehdia, the Rabat-Comedy International Film Festival, as well as events organized in Sidi Kacem, Tangier, Casablanca, Fez, Immouzer Kandar, Guelmim, Sidi Othmane, Khouribga, Agadir, Ouarzazate, Taza, Tiznit, Oujda, Rabat, Ben Guerir, and El Jadida.
Three emerging events have each received a symbolic support of 30,000 dirhams: the International Short Film Festival Arraz in Azrou-Ifrane, the Arab World Festival of Educational Short Films in Casablanca, and the Tamesna Film Festival.
The commission's work was presided over by Khadija El Alami Larousi, alongside other members including Sabah El Faissali, Malika Maa El Ainine, Asmaa Karimech, Iman El Misbahi, Ahmed Affach, Bouazza El Bouchtaoui, and Mohamed El Missi. This annual support is part of the Moroccan Cinematic Center's policy aimed at promoting cultural and cinematic dynamics throughout the regions of the Kingdom, assisting associations and institutions that organize these events that contribute to enlivening the national cinematic landscape and bringing the seventh art closer to the Moroccan public.
