Significant Financial Support for Moroccan Film Festivals

On August 6, 2026, it was announced that the Commission for Supporting Film Festival Organization convened on July 21 and 23 in Rabat, deciding to allocate a substantial financial package totaling 26,460,000 dirhams to support 40 different film festivals and events across Morocco. This initiative aims to bolster the cultural landscape of the country by providing vital funding to promote cinematic endeavors.

The Commission meticulously reviewed 55 applications for funding and engaged with festival organizers, who presented and defended their projects before the decision-making body. According to a statement from the Moroccan Cinematographic Centre (CCM), the Foundation of the Marrakech International Film Festival is set to receive the largest allocation of 12,000,000 dirhams, while the National Film Festival in Tangier, initiated by the CCM itself, is granted 7,500,000 dirhams for its upcoming edition.

Support for Diverse Cinematic Initiatives

Other notable allocations include 1,200,000 dirhams for the Mediterranean Film Festival in Tetouan and 1,000,000 dirhams for the International Women’s Film Festival in Salé, organized by the Bouregreg Association. Additionally, 800,000 dirhams will be allocated to the International Author Cinema Festival in Rabat, facilitated by the Association for International Culture and Arts. The International Maghreb Film Festival in Oujda will receive 480,000 dirhams from the Ciné Maghreb Association, while both the Zagora Trans-Saharan Film Festival and the Sawt Al Jabal Foundation will each be awarded 300,000 dirhams for their respective events.

The Commission also dedicated 250,000 dirhams to the Common Memory Centre for Democracy and Peace for organizing the International Film and Common Memory Festival in Nador. Several other associations, including the Cultural Initiative “Almobadara Attakafia” and Bidayyat Art Cinema, will receive 200,000 dirhams each for their respective film festivals, showcasing the extensive commitment to nurturing the arts across various regions.

In addition, the support extends to smaller festivals and initiatives, with amounts ranging from 50,000 to 150,000 dirhams allocated to various events, reflecting a broad recognition of the importance of cultural diversity and artistic expression. The Commission's efforts underscore Morocco's dedication to fostering a vibrant film culture and ensuring that a wide array of cinematic voices are heard.
