Major Agreement for Railway Infrastructure Development in Morocco
On September 17, 2026, a significant agreement was formalized in Rabat between Morocco and the African Development Bank (AfDB), which will see a substantial financial commitment of €405 million dedicated to the modernization of the country’s railway infrastructure. The agreement was signed by Morocco's Minister of Budget, Fouzi Lekjaa, and the AfDB’s representative in Morocco, Ashraf Tarsem. This initiative is set to bolster the railway sector in Morocco, enhancing both the capacity and operational performance of the high-speed rail line connecting the cities of Kenitra and Marrakech.
The primary objective of this agreement is to strengthen the existing infrastructure within this vital corridor, thereby improving the flow of transportation between major economic and urban hubs across the nation. Additionally, the agreement aims to enhance the alignment, quality, and diversity of vocational training offerings. This will be achieved through the digitization of services, implementation of large-scale educational programs, and improved integration mechanisms within the job market.
