Morocco and Austria Strengthen Strategic Dialogue Through New Agreement

Strengthening Bilateral Relations: A New Strategic Agreement

In a significant move to enhance diplomatic ties, Morocco and Austria have signed a new agreement aimed at fostering friendly relations and cooperation across various sectors, particularly in political and economic realms. This agreement is rooted in the mutual desire of both nations to elevate their relationship to a strategic partnership. It embodies the principles of respect for each other’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, independence, and the non-interference in domestic affairs. By formalizing this strategic dialogue, Morocco and Austria reaffirm their conviction that consultations and information exchanges regarding bilateral, regional, and international issues of shared interest will deepen mutual understanding and collaboration.

Referencing the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961, this agreement highlights the essential nature of the historic and privileged partnership between Morocco and Austria, which celebrated the 240th anniversary of their diplomatic relations on February 28, 2023. The agreement is also a continuation of the strong momentum and significant advances that have been made following the official visit of Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer to Morocco. This visit culminated in the adoption of a joint declaration on March 28, 2023, in Rabat, which set the stage for enhanced cooperation.

In this context, both Rabat and Vienna have expressed their shared commitment to bolstering bilateral cooperation and establishing a strategic dialogue aimed at deepening existing areas of collaboration while exploring new avenues for cooperation in various sectors of mutual interest. This agreement not only signifies a strong political commitment but also opens doors for economic partnerships and cultural exchanges that could benefit both nations significantly.
