Strategic Collaboration to Boost Tourism

The Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT) has entered a significant three-year partnership with the Italian ferry operator GNV, aiming to enhance tourism and maritime travel between Italy and Morocco. This collaboration is set to target an impressive 350,000 ferry passengers departing from Italy over the course of the agreement. The deal was formalized in Rabat during GNV's annual convention, which took place in Marrakech from October 2 to 5. This strategic initiative underscores the importance of Italy as a vital tourism market for Morocco, which welcomed approximately 1.15 million Italian tourists in 2025, with about 15% of them arriving by sea.

The partnership is designed not only to promote Morocco as a travel destination but also to bolster the number of ferry passengers making the journey. A comprehensive marketing campaign will be rolled out in Italy, incorporating various media channels such as radio and television advertisements, influencer collaborations, and promotions through GNV's travel agency network, complemented by street marketing efforts. Furthermore, the campaign will utilize digital screens aboard GNV ships, along with the GNV APP Maroc application and onboard radio broadcasts to showcase the wonders of Morocco.

Promoting Diverse Travel Experiences

This campaign aligns with ONMT's mission to highlight unique travel experiences and the diversity of Morocco's regional offerings. It is particularly aimed at Italian tourists who are keen on exploring via road trips, 4x4 expeditions, and ecotourism adventures. The ferry connections facilitate travelers in bringing their vehicles, allowing them the flexibility to create personalized itineraries and explore multiple regions during their visits. Additionally, the agreement addresses the demand linked to Operation Marhaba, which caters to millions of Moroccans living abroad, including a substantial community in Italy.

Moreover, this partnership builds upon prior discussions regarding the GNV Aurora, a dedicated ship for Morocco that was recently christened on June 1. This collaboration not only enhances the travel experience for passengers but also solidifies a long-term commitment to increasing tourism between the two nations.
