Morocco and Kenya Forge Stronger Ties with 11 Strategic Agreements

Strengthening Bilateral Relations through Strategic Partnerships

In a significant advancement for bilateral relations, Morocco and Kenya have entered into eleven strategic agreements aimed at enhancing cooperation across various critical sectors. This landmark initiative was formalized during a ministerial session of the Morocco-Kenya Joint Cooperation Commission convened in Nairobi. The session was co-chaired by Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, and Musalia Mudavadi, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora. This assembly followed a preparatory meeting held in Rabat earlier in October 2025, which laid the groundwork for these pivotal agreements.

The newly signed agreements encompass a wide array of sectors including agriculture, justice, health, maritime fisheries and aquaculture, gender equality and women’s empowerment, cultural cooperation, higher education, sports, wildlife conservation, and diplomatic visa exemptions. Additionally, a framework agreement was adopted that focuses on university scholarships, internships, and the exchange of expertise, thereby fostering educational and professional ties between the two nations.

Addressing Trade Imbalances and Enhancing Connectivity

These agreements are a continuation of the collaborative spirit that emerged from five memoranda of understanding established in May 2025, which targeted areas such as diplomatic training, housing, trade cooperation, youth engagement, and public service capacity building. In the latest session, both parties also approved the official minutes of the Joint Commission, which serves to create a strategic cooperation framework and a mechanism for the coordinated implementation and follow-up of all agreed commitments.

During discussions on trade and investment, the urgency to rectify the existing trade imbalance was emphasized, alongside the need to enhance market access for agricultural and value-added products. Both nations expressed a keen interest in encouraging mutual investments in renewable energy, agro-industry, pharmaceuticals, the automotive sector, and infrastructure development. Future negotiations on pivotal agreements concerning ports, double taxation, energy, air services, mining, and tourism were also prioritized.

Furthermore, the importance of connectivity between Morocco and Kenya was underscored, with both nations advocating for the resumption of direct flights to facilitate trade, tourism, and interpersonal exchanges. This session represents a crucial milestone in the evolving relationship between Morocco and Kenya, reinforcing their commitment to collaboration across economic, cultural, and strategic dimensions.
